Organizations to hold march and rally on August 1
Three organizations have come together to host a march and rally on Emancipation Day, August 1.
The Peopleâs Movement for Change (PMC), the âCall Dat Georgeâ media programme, and the Frontline have been âencouraged by the stirring of people`s emancipation energies like the Black Lives Matter in the USA, and the Pan African Reparations Coalition in Europe to identify the 1st August, 2016 as a Day of Emancipation Rally and Freedom Feast,â a release from chair Oscar Allen said.{{more}}
The release said the day and season will be dedicated to regaining âour sense of history and to stretch forward to the recovery of the emancipation imperative.â
The march will begin at 3 p.m. from Argyle on to Peruvian Vale, where the rally will be held.
âAs the 1st of August 2016 approaches, our community needs to recognize how significant Emancipation in 1838 has been to our development. A collaboration of groups and individuals calls upon Vincentians to pay respect to the past. We owe it to ourselves to recuperate from the erasing from our memories of the people, places and struggles that have brought us to the year 2016.
âWe forgo the strength we need today, if we do not draw inspiration from the historical sources of faith, hope, joy and enlightenment.
âWe need continuously, a national time, place and gathering to remember and to celebrate the trials and triumphs of our journeys here, and from that to collect together, the moral evidence for our march to fullness of freedom.
âAnd so Emancipation Day and Month 2016 invite us to gather together in a new Rally and Feast of Gratitude for the past, of Revival in the present and Vision for our future,â the release said.
All Vincentians are invited to attend.
