NDP to bring private case against Winston Gaymes

Lawyers for the New Democratic Party (NDP) are readying themselves to bring a private criminal case against the returning officer for Central Leeward in the December 2015 general elections, Winston Gaymes.

This disclosure came from president of the NDP Arnhim Eustace on the New Times programme on Nice Radio yesterday.{{more}}

“When ‘Team Democracy’ lawyers, led by Mr Stanley ‘Stalkey’ John, QC, complete work on the appeal…the… actions for the returning officer for Central Leeward Mr Winston Gaymes shall come into sharper focus.”

Eustace noted that by next week, the legal team will be seeking a fiat from the Director of Public Prosecution’s office to pursue action against Mr Gaymes.

“I want to say other[s]…may find themselves in a similar position to Mr Gaymes. We shall not relent in our pursuit of justice and the realization of the noblest democratic principles.”

Since the December 9, 2015 general elections, the NDP have been adamant that there were election irregularities in the constituencies of Central Leeward and North Windward.

Election petitions which they filed in court challenging the results in these two constituencies were thrown out last Thursday. The NDP has long signalled the party’s intention to appeal.(CM)
