Questelles SDA holds Effective Parenting graduation exercise

The Questelles Seventh-Day Adventist Service Centre graduated its first cohort from its Effective Parenting, Producing Successful Children Seminar on Tuesday.

“The quality of life will be influenced by the choices we make in this life”. These words, quoted from Sean Adams, were echoed by Pastor Henry Snagg, executive secretary and Family Life director of the SVG Mission of Seventh-Day Adventists,{{more}} as he presented the devotional thought at the Effective Parenting Graduation Exercise at the Questelles Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He also admonished the parents to be the ultimate models for their children, as they seek to bring them up to take their places in society.

The chief facilitator of the seminar, Pastor Shane Franklyn, outlined the objectives of the seminar as: to enhance better parenting skills among parents; to provide knowledge and skills, as it relates to the developmental stages and changes a child goes through while becoming an adult; to empower parents with information to share with other parents.

He explained that it was important to train the parents in the rudiments of effective parenting, so that they, in turn, could impact the lives of others in their immediate community.

The featured speaker, Alene Thomas, women, children and health director of the SVG Seventh-Day Adventist Mission, implored the graduands to affirm their children daily, strive to undertake purpose based parenting, practise and apply skills, and Christian values to their children, with the ultimate aim of making them successful citizens for the earth made new.

Parliamentary secretary in the Ministry of Education, National Reconciliation, and Ecclesiastical Affairs Senator Deborah Charles, and Nigel Stephenson, area representative for the South Leeward constituency, brought commendations and greetings to the graduands.

The Effective Parenting Seminar is the first in a series of activities that will be hosted by the Questelles Seventh-Day Adventist Church to connect and share with the residents of the Lower Questelles community. Plans are underway to conduct classes in cake decorating and computer skills in the near future.
