Police foil attempted burglary at house in Kingstown Park

Police were able to foil an attempted burglary yesterday morning after they were alerted by a vigilant neighbour.

The attempted burglary took place at Kingstown Park, a few yards away from the Serious Offences Court.

Nigel Layne, a resident of the area, told SEARCHLIGHT that he was at home at about 10:30 a.m., when he became suspicious of some guys who were in the vicinity of the house.{{more}}

“I hear the grass shaking, so I see dem guy,” Layne said.

At first, he didn’t think much of the presence of the men, because they usually frequent the area to pick mangoes.

Shortly after, Layne said he heard some tearing and ripping and looked again to see what was happening.

“When I look I see dem guy pulling off the back door of the ‘chiney people’ and dem house,” he recalled.

On seeing that, Layne said he quietly sneaked down to the courthouse and told a police officer what was happening.

He noted that his house had been burgled twice before and his neighbour’s house had also been broken into many times in the past.

“They always does break that house,” he stated.

After a brief chase, during which a warning shot was fired, police were able to apprehend one of the men, Felix Lavia, in the Level Gardens area.

Up to press time, police had not formally charged Lavia. However, he is assisting police with the investigations into various offences of burglary in the area. (CM/CA)
