Union Island Learning Resource Centre to undergo rehabilitation
Government has entered into a contract with Mac Construction Inc for the rehabilitation of the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) in Ashton, Union Island.
The contract, entered into on March 7, 2016, is valued at EC$414,500 and represents the lowest qualifying tender received.{{more}} It is funded by the World Bank under the Regional Disaster Vulnerability Reduction Project (RDVRP), a release from the Agency for Public Information said.
The works, which will rehabilitate the building to meet the emergency shelter standards of the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO), forms part of governmentâs priority investments to reduce the countryâs physical and economic vulnerability to adverse natural events, through building resilience to current and future climatic changes.
The works, which include the installation of hurricane shutters, the replacement of windows and upgrades to the rest rooms and external drainage, will commence on May 30, 2016 and are expected to last four months.
The RDVRP is supporting SVGâs efforts to prevent and adapt to the effects of climate change, strengthen hazard and risk evaluation, and improve decision making.
