NDP’s election petition case for December 2015 begins today
The two election petitions filed by candidates for the New Democratic Party (NDP) in the December 2015 elections are expected to be heard today before Justice Brian Cottle, at the High Court in Kingstown.
Parliamentary Representative for Central Kingstown St Clair Leacock has encouraged NDP supporters to come out to support the party, as they go to court to âfight for the democracy of all Vincentians.â{{more}}
Leacock, addressing persons at the NDPâs candle-light rally, which was held at Sion Hill on Wednesday night, said the NDP is respectful of the judicial process, but the party has evidence that the election was stolen.
âI speak to you tonight, two days before a momentous occasion when in the court in St Vincent and the Grenadines, your future and generationsâ future will be determined by the judgement of the court,â said Leacock.
He said the Government is doing all in its power to make sure that the election petitions do not see the light of day, but the NDP is resilient in their efforts to see justice served.
The NDP has refused to accept the results of the December 2015 elections and as a result, Benjamin Exeter and Lauron Baptiste, who contested the poll in the Central Leeward and North Windward constituencies respectively, have filed petitions seeking to have the results in those constituencies declared null and void. The NDP claims that there were widespread irregularities which significantly affected the quality of the election.(LC)
