School for Children with Special Needs concert hailed a success

The students from the School for Children with Special Needs pulled out all the stops last week Wednesday, April 27, showing that they are fully capable of being entertaining.

The term “disability is not inability” was more than proven, as over 60 students belonging to the Fernside-based institution gathered at the Methodist Church Hall in Kingstown, where they provided to the public, top class entertainment in the form of an Easter concert.{{more}}

Teacher at the school and concert coordinator Monique Burnette said that the school normally has a Christmas concert, but they were unable to do so last year, so they decided to instead have an Easter event.

“We did not have the persons to help us at Christmas, so we decided to do it at Easter and it’s fabulous,” said Burnette, above the din of the sold-out crowd.

The event saw student Jermaine Nichols reciting a poem entitled ‘Thank You’; Presley Peters doing a poem called ‘Happy Easter’; Aaron Doyle, a poem ‘Jesus’; and Eric George rendering a song called ‘Ancient Days’.

Gerbera Class did a song entitled ‘Worthy is the Lamb’; Sunflower Class did a dance ‘Fill me up’; while Tulip Class did a song ‘Awesome’. A number of other students also performed.

Guest performances came from local acts like Stacey Little, Avenue Dancers, Bomani, Sharpyon, Rodney Small, the Meliziswie Brothers, Mauricia Bibby and Amanda Burnette.

Burnette said that the event was a success and they are considering making it a yearly function.
