Owned and managed by husband and wife team Leslie Jack and Carol Veira, Lola’s SVG is offering patrons a bistro-styled menu, as well as desserts and other treats to satisfy the sweet tooth.

“It’s a combination of two ideas. The dessert/café style of it was my idea, and Leslie’s idea was a café doing food and nice lunches – a bit more healthy than what you normally get… I guess the combination came together nicely!” enthused Veira.

Speaking with SEARCHLIGHT last Wednesday, Jack and Veira explained that they are aiming to provide Vincentians with the foods they are familiar with – just with somewhat of a twist on the usual recipes, and improved quality.

“We haven’t gone totally different from the general palate, so we have included a few things that Vincentians are accustomed to, but at the same time we have introduced a few new ones,” noted Jack.

In particular, he enthused about two ‘new’ items – lasagna soup and caramelized onion sandwiches – which he is eager for patrons to try out.

“Different, but very tasty!”

Lola’s SVG will serve bistro-style dishes such as soups, salads, sandwiches, pastas, wraps, pizzas, burgers, chicken wings and fries – among others.

Jack also highlighted that in addition to its regular opening hours, Lola’s SVG will on occasion feature special dinner nights and Sunday brunches, which will be publicized in advance.

Lola’s SVG will open Monday – Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Fridays from 7 a.m. until; and Saturdays 7 a.m. to midday. However, this Saturday, May 7, the bistro will open until late evening on account of the launching of Vincy Mas 2016.

Jack further added that the concept being employed at Lola’s SVG will make it stand out from its competitors.

“First of all, it’s two persons who have no clue about restaurants. So, the things that we went through to even come up with concepts – looking at pictures in different areas, we ate at probably every restaurant in St Vincent and probably quite a few overseas. When we see different foods, we send pictures for one another,” he said.

Veira added: “I think we have a good team, too, who came with their ideas. So, we thrashed out a lot of our ideas, and brought in the ideas of our employees, which worked out better for us. Sometimes, we had ideas that were over the top, and then when they come in they’re like ‘no, that’s not possible; this is more economical’… It worked out better that way.”

She also admitted that most of all she will be looking forward to having children patronize Lola’s SVG – especially for the desserts and other such treats.

“We’ll be calling in kids to try the ice cream and things like that. The excitement when they come in – I’m looking forward to that!” enthused Veira.

Jack said that he is most of all looking forward to the feedback from the public on menu choices.

“At the end of the day, what we do here is also to serve them. So, feedback from them is also important.”

Lola’s SVG, which is located on Halifax Street (Back Street) opposite the Ministry of Education, will have a social media presence on various platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat and LinkedIn. (JSV)
