Chill’n celebrating mom in a big way
As families in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) get ready to celebrate one of the most important persons in the household, mom, one local business, Chillân, is taking the celebrations to another level.
Chillân is going beyond Motherâs Day (May 8) and teaming up with local charity, Leave Out Violence in SVG (LOVNSVG), for an entire month.{{more}}
Candace Sealey of Ignite!, the marketing and public relations consultancy business that handles the restaurant/bar/loungeâs marketing and public relations initiatives, stated that the celebrations will take the form of the âCard for a Cause,â which can be purchased for $10.
âPatrons can then show the card any time during the month of May and receive discounts on any purchase at Chillân. At the end of May, 5 per cent of all purchases made by patrons who present the card will be donated to the LOVNSVG charityâ, said Sealey.
Commenting, president of the LOVNSVG Nailah John said, âthe LOVNSVG partnership with Chillân is a critical milestone in our effort to increase awareness on the issues of domestic violence throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines and soon throughout the entire region. It is our sincere wish that proceeds from this campaign be used to positively affect social change regarding the issue of domestic violenceâ.
John said that funds received through this endeavour will be invested in avenues such as counseling, educational programmes and awareness campaigns.
âNothing can be changed or improved without first creating awarenessâ, stressed John.
Co-owner of Chillân Dr Jacqueline James-Lyttle noted that the campaign is a step towards celebrating women, as well as supporting the fight for their safety, their physical, emotional and financial freedom and more.
She stressed that it was on this premise that the âCHILLâN WALLâ that celebrates women, as well this initiative, was created.
âThe âwallâ has generated significant attention, with customers signing the wall to show their supportâ, said James-Lyttle, who added that the campaign will run until the end of May.
Chillân recently celebrated its first anniversary and is co-owned by Carl James and one of SVGâs cultural ambassadors, Kevin Lyttle.
