Woman cries out for justice after dog is killed
Charmine Durrant, a resident of Block 2000/Old Montrose, is calling for the authorities to look into the killing of one of her dogs.
In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT yesterday, Durrant said that she has always kept a number of dogs, most recently, two mongrels, a mixed breed pet that she received from Union Island and four other dogs she reared from pups.{{more}}
Durrant alleges that on Saturday, her neighbour threw a block party and a man named âJuniorâ said that he would get rid of one of the dogs.
The dreadlocked Durrant said that she went to Rose Place and âwhen me come me meet me dog home dead.â
The slender woman said that a man from the neighbourhood told her that he saw Junior strike the dog with a piece of lumber, killing it. She alleged that Junior killed one of her dogs before and according to her, she made a police report on Saturday and was told that officers would come to her home, but they never did.
âI know personally is Junior kill my dog,â she alleged.
According to Durrant, Junior would normally âthrow wudâ for her. However, yesterday he looked away when he passed her.
âI ainât getting no satisfaction,â Durrant said, breaking into tears.
She noted that only two dogs remain from the seven she once owned and the dog that was killed on Saturday was special, as it was a Rottweiler mix.
However, when SEARCHLIGHT contacted Junior Phillips, he was adamant that he did not kill the dog and that Durrant lied because they had fallen out.
âI swear to God I ainât kill she dog,â he asserted.
Phillips said he confronted the man who told Durrant that he had killed the dog and the man denied ever saying so.
âI get up yesterday morning and see the dog dead; me ainât know. She say is me, but is not me kill the dog,â said Phillips, while Durrant denied all allegations that the dog was a village nuisance.
âShe dog does deh pon the sidewalk lie down inside of the road. I does pass it; me donât trouble itâ¦that is the same dog that does deh biting up everybody, weh everybody done warn she about.â
Phillips suggested that it could have been anyone who killed the dog.
âIt could be somebody else pass and see it lie down sleeping and kill it but I know is not me kill the dog, but she trying to say is me and up to now she canât bring a police by me,â he said.
