The activity took the form of a raffle. President of the TCMA, fifth term student Danielle Samano explained how the idea came about.
âIt really started as an opportunity that Trinity set up with the World Pediatric Project. A group of students working along with the project in its plastic surgery and ophthalmology clinic was introduced to Jackie King, regional coordinator of the project and Dove Club foundation member. She [King] explained that the club had a Nexus tablet, which was donated by the Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan, and wanted to conduct a raffle to raise funds for the club,â recalled Samano.
The students immediately expressed their interest in running the raffle, and, towards that end, president Samano, through Trinity Medical School was able to procure a smart phone, donated by Digicel, as a second prize. Not wanting to forfeit a third place winning, a professor at the school donated a $200 gift certificate for Massy Stores.
The prizes were drawn as follows: 1st prize of the Nexus tablet went to Angela Clarke, with ticket number 3832, which was drawn by medical student Kurt Stapley. Second prize of the smart phone went to Nita Cumberbatch, with ticket number 3819 â drawn by student Rob Kidnie. Daniel Rode, with ticket number 4031, drawn by student Mena Mikhail, won the third prize of the $200 gift certificate.
The TCMA, which was originally started at Trinity Medical School by a group of missionaries calling it the Christian Fellowship about two years ago, transitioned under the CMA umbrella that exists in the United States with territories for international medical schools in the Caribbean.
Its purpose is to help student doctors to grow in their faith as they continue in their medical education. The organization engages in outreaches, and is grateful for the opportunity to assist the Dove Club, being quite pleased about reaching the goals set for the fund-raiser.
The Dove Club was formed with the goal of providing ongoing support to the World Pediatric Project programme, through the families who are recipients of its service.
President Samano outlined the workings of the club.
âThe goal of the club is to support the families and help them to get access to WPP care,â she confirmed.
âAlthough the WPP donates all the medical care, the family still needs to get to the United States for the treatment.â She admitted that when the logistics of completing that task was explained, it boggled her mind.
The Dove Club has expressed its gratitude to the Trinity Christian Medical Association, for its timely and selfless assistance.
