The hour-long session heard from IHSYL President Chelsea Moses who explained the 2015/2016 theme, “Me … You… We… a shared vision for a better society”.

She dealt with the “Me” aspect dubbed “Each one teach one” while her discussion highlighted the importance of good personal hygiene, focusing on hair, fingernails, teeth, clothes and genitals. She also spoke about diseases that can be caused as a result of poor personal hygiene.

“This activity saw the students actively engaging in the discussion. They gave tips on how to take care of the specific body parts. Additionally, some of the IHS young leaders gave their experience with the knowledge learnt from their personal hygiene sessions held at their school earlier this month,” Moses told SEARCHLIGHT on Monday.

The form one students were later broken down into groups of five at which point they held a group rapport where they spoke about advantages and disadvantages of personal hygiene.

“The shy students were seen giving their input in the group discussion. Evidently, they were enjoying the small group session, that when it was time to tie up the activity, they begged for more time,” said Moses who added that when the groups rejoined as a whole, two participants cited the benefit of the session.

Moses and the other Young Leaders also used the opportunity to present three care packages to the school.

Said Moses, “It is hoped that the information will continue to their peers as to fulfill the ‘we’ aspect of our theme”.

The IHSYL group is operating under the sub-theme, “Weaknesses, strengths, let’s work together to ensure a proper future”.
