Malcolm recognized for years of service with BHS

A teacher at the Bethel High School (BHS) was yesterday Monday, April 18, recognized for giving 20 years of service to the school.

“I feel very close to the school because I’ve been here for a long time,” Keziah Malcolm told reporters after a ceremony celebrating the school’s 40th anniversary at the Apostolic Faith Mission at Campden Park.{{more}}

“I’m really proud of this school and the achievements that we have made over these 40 years,” added Malcolm, who teaches Health and Family Life Education (HFLE), and was described by her co-workers as a patient, understanding role model, with a sense of humour, “that has made the school more pleasant.”

Malcolm said most of her teaching years were spent at the school, noting that she started at the end of 1993.

During her tenure, she has also taught English Language, Social Studies and History.

The seasoned teacher said she has enjoyed working along with the students, while trying to mold them into responsible citizens.

She, however, noted that as the years have gone by, students have been manageable, but are becoming increasingly difficult with today’s breakdown in discipline.

“However, I’m doing it because I love it; so it is still a joy to teach the young ones,” she added.

Malcolm also praised the founders of the school, stating that they had to make a lot of sacrifices in order to establish the institution.

“I can only see the school going forward,” said Malcolm. (AS)
