Visiting veterinarians to volunteer services
In conjunction with Dr Eric Audain, Liz Clayton, and the Vincentian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (VSPCA), three US veterinarians and one vet technician will volunteer their services on mainland St Vincent, beginning tomorrow, April 9.{{more}}
These clinics will run until next Thursday, April 14 and take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Two other local veterinarians, Dr Collin Boyle and Dr Coleen Phillips, will also assist at the post-surgery stage.
The primary goal of this project is to spay and neuter stray dogs and cats. However, these procedures (also called sterilizing, fixing, tying off, castrating) are so important for the well-being of our animals and Vincentians, owners experiencing financial difficulties are urged to bring their pets, free of charge, although donations to help with VSPCAâs expenses are needed and appreciated.
The initial target areas for the humane capturing of strays will be at the ET Joshua Airport and the Cruise Ship Terminal. Owners may bring their dogs and cats to the Ministry of Agriculture parking lot for registration and transportation to the DistribuVet Clinic at Stoney Ground. Along with the tying off, a general check-up and simple procedures (deworming, skin treatments) will be given. It is recommended that appointments be made for any other services or surgeries. (Please do not feed your pet the morning of any surgery.) To schedule an appointment, please call the clinic at 528-8638, or the VSPCA at 532-9327 for more information, which will also be given throughout the week via radio and SVGTV Teleclassifieds.
The distressingly high number of unwanted, starving and diseased dogs and cats needs to be reversed through human intervention. To see the long-term effects of better health and well-being for both our animals and ourselves, thousands of dogs and cats need to be fixed. Please take advantage of this opportunity to have your pet medically checked, spayed or neutered.
