Firebug hits city again
Fire-fighters have been commended for expeditiously combating a fire at the building that formerly housed the treasury department in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Commissioner of Police Michael Charles commended officers attached to the fire department for reporting briskly to the scene of the blaze that reportedly broke out about 1:20 am.{{more}}
In a post on social media, Charles also praised the fire fighting team, referring to a recent training course they had participated in.
âFire Fighting 1 Trainer Walter Cook gotta be proud of our guys. Hats off to s/Sgt Henry and Crew. Fantastic job guys.â
According to Public Relations Officer Inspector Hawkins Nanton, because of the quick response of the officers to the scene, only a section of the building, which adjoins the Postal Corporation building was affected.
The Postal Corporation building also sustained minor smoke and heat damage.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
This is the second fire to have taken place at the old treasury building in the last eight months.
On Sunday, August 30 2015 at about 5:20 pm, the building was gutted by fire along with neighbouring office buildings which formerly housed the electoral office and the ministry of telecommunications. Fortuitously, all the government buildings affected by the fire were no longer being used as offices at the time of the first fire.(AS)
