Digicel lends helping hand to local groups

On Saturday, March 12, the staff of Digicel headed out in support of the SCORCH Cancer Support Group’s “Blazing the trail” SCORCH Cancer Walk.

Part of the SCORCH Cancer Foundation’s mission is to assist persons by helping them to offset some of their medical expenses.{{more}} Digicel also sponsored prizes for the Iron man and Iron woman challenge that was held at the end of the walk. Digicel received honourable mention for being the largest registered group.

The Digicel marketing manager states: “We believe that cancer prevention is key to lowering the chance of getting cancer. In addition to the physical and emotional distress caused by cancer, the high costs of care are also a burden to patients, their families and to the public. By preventing cancer, the number of new cases of cancer is lowered. Hopefully, any awareness which we as Digicel participate in will assist in reducing the burden of cancer and subsequently lower the number of deaths caused by cancer.”

Later on that evening, Digicel also showed their support for The Sunshine School, Bequia, by assisting in their fund-raising venture in the form of a Bingo Night to acquire funds to facilitate the day-to-day functioning of the school. Digicel showed their usual support for children with special needs and their institutions by donating a Digicel smartphone and the grand prize cash award.

Patrice Hutchins walked away with the cash prize, while Sydney Richards was the lucky winner of the Digicel smartphone.
