Vincentian ordered deported from BVI

A Vincentian man, originally from Belair, was deported from the British Virgin Islands (BVI) on February 10, 2016, after serving seven years in a British Virgin Islands (BVI) prison for having sex with a 10-year-old girl.

Mondale Questelles was ordered deported by Governor John Duncan.{{more}}

Governor Duncan stated that he felt that Questelles’ presence in the BVI was undesirable and not conducive to the public good and therefore ordered that Questelles be placed on board the first available aircraft leaving the BVI.

In July 2011, Questelles was sentenced to seven years in prison for the incident that took place on Jost Van Dyke, an island roughly eight square kilometres, or about three square miles, the smallest of the four main islands of the BVI.

He was 31 years old at the time of the offence.

During sentencing, the judge said that she thought that for a grown person to have sex with a 10-year-old, that person must have some sort of psychological problem and as such, ordered that Questelles receive counselling.

“To my mind, there is some psychological deficiency; any grown person who would find sexual gratification in a child raises the question of his psychological health,” the judge had said.

Court records say that Questelles became friends with the complainant and obtained her telephone number from a friend and began to communicate with her through text messages and phone calls. He would sometimes give the young girl rides to and from school and also took her to places to run errands for her parents.

Reports are that on February 20, 2011, he observed the girl’s parents were not at home, so he called her, told her to meet him outside, then had sex with her in his vehicle.

Records say that the girl’s mother found her clothing that same day, questioned her and later took her to the doctor, where the young girl admitted that she had sex with Questelles.

It is said that Questelles has since returned to St Vincent and the Grenadines.
