PM promises no victimization under ULP

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves has promised that no one will suffer political discrimination or victimization under his Unity Labour Party (ULP) government.

Gonsalves’ promise came on Monday during the swearing in of the new Cabinet of Ministers at Heritage Square, a ceremony that was preceded and followed by New Democratic Party (NDP) led protests in capital city Kingstown.{{more}}

“We will govern with good sense and balance. No one will suffer from this Government any discrimination on the grounds of political affiliation or belief, race, sex, religion or other basis, as detailed in our nation’s Constitution; that is our solemn vow to each and everyone who is reached by my words,” said Gonsalves to hundreds of persons who had gathered at Heritage Square.

He said that the greatest exercise of power is restraint in the use of that power. In relation to the protest action, Gonsalves said “It is a matter of regret that a narrow band of misguided political partisans have been seeking, without justification or right reason, “to impugn the unassailable integrity of the office of the supervisor of elections and to tarnish the good name of St Vincent and the Grenadines.”

He noted that this country is a civilized country that has been holding unsullied general elections for 64 years since universal adult suffrage was introduced in 1951. (LC)
