Nine Mornings 2015 schedule of activities

The 2015 SVG Nine Mornings festivities begin in earnest this week.

In Kingstown, the Nine Mornings festivities will begin at midnight tonight, December 15. The programme includes: Midnight Mass by Monsignor Michael Stewart and the Catholic Church; this will be followed by a lighted street parade around Kingstown, with the RSVG Police Force Band, boom drums and steel bands. At the conclusion of the parade, Cecil McKie, the Minister of Culture, will officially declare the festival open and then there will be the lighting of Heritage Square.{{more}}

The various openings across the country are being done under the theme: “Celebrating the real reason for the season.”

The Nine Mornings festivities, which are unique to St Vincent and the Grenadines, will be held from December 16 to 24, as Vincentians celebrate “A Unique Vincentian Tradition”.

In addition to the national Nine Mornings celebrations that will begin tonight, the villages of Point, Rose Hall, Stubbs, Rilland Hill, Mt Bentick, Richland Park, Barrouallie, Vermont and Cotton Ground will have light-up ceremonies and concerts, beginning from 7 p.m. in all communities, except Stubbs, where the event will begin at 6 p.m. and Cotton Ground, where it will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, the community of Troumaca will have their light-up ceremony and concert, beginning from 7 p.m., while the national celebrations will take place at Heritage Square from 4 a.m.

On Thursday, the Rose Bank community will have its light-up and concert from 7 p.m.

The communities of Bridgetown, Owia, Fitz-Hughes and Diamond Village, Bequia will have their events on Friday, December 18, beginning at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, it will be the turn of Port Elizabeth, Bequia; Green Hill and Park Hill, beginning at 7 p.m.

Next Tuesday, December 22, there will be a Diaspora Morning at Heritage Square, beginning at 4 a.m.
