PM Gonsalves outlines four remaining ambitions

Prime minister and leader of the Unity Labour Party (ULP) Dr Ralph Gonsalves says there are only four personal ambitions that he has remaining.{{more}}

Addressing a meeting of the ULP at Clare Valley in Central Leeward on Sunday, Gonsalves made it clear that the ambitions he spoke of were not ambitions for the people, his children or for the people of the Caribbean, as those had been set out in the policies of the party and whether he lives or dies, these plans and policies would be carried out.

“At the moment of my death, I must have no enemies. Other people can have me as an enemy, but I will have no one as an enemy. Secondly, at the moment of my death, I want to have no more sins to confess; that I have confessed them all. At the moment of my death, I must own nothing; that all that I have earthly, would be disposed of.”

“And the fourth thing. At the moment of my death, I ask my Lord and Saviour not to let me leave behind any unfinished task,” he stated.

The Prime Minister also stated that this election is his final run as leader of the ULP.

“…for this final run, I will not come back to you as party leader…. Somebody will take over after this, after I have done the next term and we will make sure that the transition is clear.”

He told the audience last Sunday that there is currently $450 million put up to carry out a road repair, road building and sea defence programme that will take place between 2016 and 2019.

“We have monies put up…the question is are you all going to allow me to spend it or are you going to let Eustace spend it?”

Gonsalves disclosed that up to November 6, the day before Parliament was dissolved, he held talks with persons about getting money to help with future projects.

“Up to the day before Parliament dissolved, I looking money and getting money,” he affirmed.(CM)
