Burden of Argyle International Airport would fall on NDP – Eustace
President of the New Democratic Party (NDP) Arnhim Eustace has said that finishing the Argyle International Airport is a burden that will fall on the NDP.
âThe burden is going to fall on the New Democratic Party to finish that airport â¦and that will be a burden by itself.â
Speaking at a political rally at Layou on Saturday, Eustace said that his private consultants estimated that $1.1 billion{{more}} will be spent on the airport, compared with the Governmentâs estimate of $400 million.
He also that he has evidence that suggests that the airport will not finish until 2020.
âThey have plenty things to do still⦠A lot of money still has to be spent on the airport!â
Eustace also said that construction on the facility needed to take fuel to planes using the airport has not begun, but will cost $32 million.
Additionally he alleges that 61 landowners whose land was taken for the construction of the airport have not been paid, which he collectively estimates to be around $20 million.
âThe New Democratic Party government will, in fact, have to deal with airport in the same way that we will deal with the new hospital,â Eustace said.
He said that the new hospital promised by the NDP will be managed by competent persons and will also align with the budget.(AS)
