Corpus Christi Parish off to strong start
The first public appearance of the new Parish of Corpus Christi, in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Kingstown, was made on Sunday, November 8, at the Annual Family Fun Day at Arnos Vale. Although fun was the operative word, the event started at 9 a.m. with the recitation of the rosary, liturgical dancing and the celebration of Holy Mass by His Worship Bishop Jason Gordon.{{more}} Addressing the gathering after the mass, the Bishop said that he expected all Catholics to conduct themselves with maturity and responsibility during the run-up to the forth-coming elections.
The new parish chose royal purple as their parish colour and performed royally, gaining the second highest points among the parishes in the sports events. To celebrate and mark the occasion the three communities of the parish held a Chinese Auction of a cake made by one of their members. On it was emblazoned âCorpus Christi â One Body, One Familyâ. The final bid to meet the $300 target was made by Loyola Alexander of Union Island, who happily displayed it with Fr Peter Okonkwo.
The Parish of Corpus Christi includes the communities of Corpus Christi in Villa, St Martin de Porres in Stubbs and Our Lady of Lourdes in Argyle. The parish is under the guidance of Fr Peter Okonkwo, the parish priest, who is ably assisted by Fr Boniface Ogonna, both of whom are on mission from Nigeria.
