On Friday, October 16, the groupâs local representative, Elsa Lionel-Jones, handed over the supplies to the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment, during a brief ceremony at the Medical Stores Building in Rose Place. According to a release from Jones-McDowall:
âToo long has society swept the problems of mental illness and destitution under the carpet and wish that it will go away. Weâre all human and we never know what may happen in our lives that will take us from sanity to insanity or from opulence to poverty.â
She said that the supplies were gathered in June of this year when the group held its first âLend-A-Handâ drive.
âWe are thankful for the generous donations through which our organization was better equipped to providing patients both young and old with personal amenities such as personal hygiene products, toiletries, clothing, cleaning products, walking aids, vitamins and medical supplies and equipment that are valued at about EC$20,000. We do hope our contributions will go a long way and do look forward to contributing more in the future,â the president said, also thanking Lauren Walker and the staff of Majestic Express Ltd, âfor their extraordinary efforts and efficiency in working together with our organization to organize and ship these items.â
