KFC’s back in town

Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has reopened its Bay Street, Kingstown branch, but no word has yet been given as to whether a third branch will open here.

The Bay Street branch reopened last Sunday and follows the reopening of the franchise’s branch at Arnos Vale two months ago.

KFC’s first local franchise holder Ken Boyea had to relinquish the fast food chain in March this year,{{more}} after his company, St Clair Investments Ltd, went into receivership.

During the time Boyea held the franchise, the fast food chain expanded from a lone branch at the corner of Melville and Grenville streets in Kingstown to a second at Bay Street and one at Arnos Vale.

The new franchise holder is businessman Kelly Glass and his niece Tessa Glass.

KFC had been operating here for almost 29 years under Boyea and on closing, scores of workers were left on the breadline without receiving severance pay.

The re-opening of the two branches has seen the rehiring of some of the former workers, but it is unclear whether the workers who were sent home when the company closed in March have been paid their severance by Boyea or the receivers.(LC)
