14 more Vincentians designated as sporting, cultural ambassadors
Fourteen more Vincentians have been afforded the distinction of carrying diplomatic passports and calling themselves sporting and cultural ambassadors of St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The announcement of the newest ambassadors came last Tuesday, October 27 during the Prime Ministerâs speech to mark this countryâs 36th anniversary of Independence.{{more}}
The sporting ambassadors announced by the Prime Minister are Lance John (cricket), Ezra Hendrickson and Marlon âThirstyâ James (football), Esther Williams-Robinson, Shirley Browne-Winsboro, Peggy Ince-Hull, Stella Boyea-Ashby and Gailene Windsor (netball), and Adonal Foyle (basketball).
The cultural ambassadors are Wollis Christopher, James âJamesy Pâ Morgan, Carlton âCPâ Hall, Olson âCaribbean Peteâ Peters (all in the area of popular music soca and/or calypso) and Bridgette Blucher (gospel music).
âMy government has instituted an admirable policy of appointing sporting and cultural ambassadors with the privilege, among other things, of carrying a diplomatic passport. This group of ambassadors are persons of merit and quality who have distinguished themselves in the fields of culture and sports,â said Gonsalves.
Should they accept the honour, these persons will join others like basketball administrator Sabrina Mitchell, former national netballer Dr Halimah Deshong, former national footballer Stanley âLuxieâ Morris, former national and regional cricketers Denis Byam and Deighton Butler, carnival mas men Elroy âBlondie Birdâ Boyd and Julian âPillingâ Pollard, playwright, poet and author Cecil âBlazerâ Williams, veteran pannist and vocalist Ken Isles and pannist and manager of Sea Operations Starlift Steel Orchestra Errol âSardoâ Sutherland.
Other ambassadors are Marlon Roudette, Rondy âLutaâ McIntosh, Orandi âBomaniâ Charles, Shaunelle Mckenzie, Gamal âSkinny Fabulousâ Doyle, Delroy âFiremanâ Hooper, Kenneth âVibrating Scakesâ Alleyne, Kevin Lyttle and Juliana Nero. (LC)
