Caribbean airline LIAT returns to Dominica

LIAT, The Caribbean Airline, announces the resumption of flights to and from the Douglas-Charles Airport in Dominica starting Friday, September 18.{{more}}

LIAT was forced to suspend services to Dominica on August 27, due to the passage of Tropical Storm Erika, which resulted in severe damage to the island and the closure of the Douglas-Charles Airport.

Chief executive officer David Evans applauded the Government and people of Dominica for their resilience over the last several weeks, citing their tireless efforts to get the country back to a state of normalcy following the storm.

“We are extremely happy to be returning to Dominica,” Mr Evans said, noting that “this would not have been possible without the spirit of community and resilience for which Dominica is well known.”

LIAT will operate one flight to Dominica on Friday, September 18, increasing to two daily flights from Saturday, September 19.

LI 581 will depart Antigua’s VC Bird International Airport at 07:10 daily, arriving at the Douglas-Charles Airport at 07:50. The return service, LI 580, will leave Dominica at 08:30, arriving in Antigua at 09:10.

Effective Saturday, September 19, LI 364 will depart Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados at 14:20 daily, arriving at the Douglas-Charles Airport at 15:20. On Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday the service continues to Guadeloupe and Antigua and Barbuda, arriving at 16:25 and 17:20 respectively. On Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the service continues non-stop to Antigua, departing Dominica at 16:00 and arriving in Antigua at 16:40.

All night flights into and out of Dominica remain suspended until further notice.

Customers travelling from Dominica are advised that they should arrive at the airport at least three hours before the scheduled departure time to give themselves enough time for the increased security and baggage checks at the Douglas-Charles Airport.

While the company anticipates that some customers may wish to move an increased volume of cargo and luggage with the resumption of services, due to the cargo hold capacity limitations of our aircraft, it is necessary that LIAT restricts the amount of baggage carried by its customers. This will help us offer a more consistent and reliable baggage delivery service to customers adhering to the baggage limitations.

Customers are reminded that the free baggage allowance for all LIAT services is one piece at a maximum of 50 lbs (23 kgs) per adult or child customer. Additional pieces of luggage will attract a charge and will be accepted on a stand-by basis. The maximum overall size per piece will be 62 inches (157 cms).

In addition, customers are allowed one piece of cabin baggage at a maximum weight of 15 lbs (7 kgs) and maximum overall dimensions of 21 inches x 14 inches x 8 inches (53 x 35 x 20 cms). These dimensions include wheels, all pockets and handles.
