Digicel lends helping hand to Dominica

On Tuesday, September 1, 2015, the staff of Digicel St Vincent showed their support for the people of Dominica by donating thousands of dollars’ worth of food items, toiletries and other necessities. Staff pledged their donations in-house and proceeded to purchase much needed items at CK Greaves Supermarket. {{more}}Partnering with the Barbados Coast Guard, the staff of Digiciel met at the Cruise Ship Terminal just after dawn, to load their supplies on the Leonard C Banfield Coast Guard vessel. These items are set to be delivered to Dominica on Tuesday evening.

“We hope that our gesture will supply some of the much needed support for our Dominican sisters and brothers in this unfortunate situation. We have supplied goods that will assist Dominican families with a variety of food items, medicine, water, hygiene and grooming supplies,” said John Gidharry, country manager of Digicel St Vincent. He said they have launched many more initiatives in support of Dominica and shipping to that neighbouring island has already been arranged.

Gidharry said Digicel is committed to providing community outreach both locally and across the region and they encourage Vincentians to be part of the activities which they have launched to provide much needed assistance to Dominica. Collection bins have been stationed in each Digicel store across St Vincent and the Grenadines.

In addition, persons can also assist by texting #DonatetoDominica to 5151. All proceeds will be forwarded to Dominica with Digicel matching the value of funds collected.
