86,041 – Latest figure for eligible voters

The most recently compiled voters’ list puts the number of persons eligible to vote in general elections in St Vincent and the Grenadines at 86,041.

The list, which was made available to the public earlier this week, shows the number of eligible registered voters as at July 31, 2015 and is the first list to be compiled since the enactment of the Representation of the People (Amendment) Act 2015.{{more}}

A release from the supervisor of elections says of the 86,041 names, 1,987 were voters whose names had been advertised to be struck off the list of eligible voters.

The new voters’ list contains 43,598 males and 42,443 females, with 24,890 being between 18 and 30 years; 47,264 between 31 and 60 years; and 13,887 aged 60 years and over.

The constituency with the most registered voters is East St George – 7,409, followed closely by South Leeward with 7,018. The other constituencies, in order of the number of registered voters, are: West St George – 6,556; Central Kingstown – 6,445; East Kingstown – 6,348; West Kingstown – 6,109; North Windward – 6,086; Marriaqua – 5,946; Central Leeward – 5,870; South Windward – 5,834; South Central Windward – 5,497; North Leeward – 5,456; North Central Windward – 5,179; Northern Grenadines – 3,740 and Southern Grenadines – 2,548.

The Voters’ List may be viewed on the Electoral Office page of the government website – www.gov.vc and on the websites of the local political parties.

According to the release from the supervisor of elections, as of September 7, the registering officers will have hard copies of the lists available for scrutiny at the constituency registrations, which will continue in all constituencies every Monday and Wednesday between 4 p.m. and 5.30 p.m.

“The Electoral Office wishes to remind the public that constituency registration will continue to cater for (i) New Registrants (ii) Persons whose names were removed from the Voters’ List and who wish to re-register (iii) Eligible voters who desire to have a change of residence or a change of name.

“The Electoral Office urges all eligible voters to carefully peruse the Voters’ List to ensure that their names are included and that their voter registration information is accurate. In particular, the Electoral Office is appealing to persons who have registered as voters or who updated their voter registration after June 1, 2015, but who observe that their names are not included on this most recent Voters’ List to contact the Office of the Supervisor of Elections promptly. Such individuals must provide the relevant evidence to support their claim.

“The Electoral Office of St Vincent and the Grenadines anticipates the usual co-operation of the general public.”
