Sion Hill youths receive back to school assistance
The Sion Hill Overseas Based Residents and Friends Secondary School Scholarship Initiative has this year presented 11 bursaries to students in Sion Hill and surrounding areas who passed the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA).
The initiative, which was started last year as a means of giving back to the community, held its prize-giving ceremony at the Sion Hill Village hard court on July 23.{{more}}
The main coordinator of the programme, Ideisha Jackson, thanked the persons who contribute annually to this venture.
She stated âitâs amazing how a few persons can making a difference by giving.â
The children were all given bursaries of between $150 and $400.
The donors for this yearâs intiative are: Garth Collis (Canada), Brian âJapsâ Glasgow (SVG), Robert Dickson (USA), Venton âFuzzyâ James (Tortola), McArthur Robertson from Robertsonâs Surveys (SVG), Roxann Chambers (USA), Shawn âPeweeâ Hewitt, Dugal Williams (England), Dornet Hull (SVG) and Jujube Bookstore.
Jackson reiterated her thanks to this yearâs donors and to all who have contributed to the intiative, including Searchlight newspaper and NBC radio.
âIt really takes a village to raise a child so we look forward to your continued assistance,â Jackson said.
