Four-year-old child injured by stray bullet

Police have not said if a shooting incident which took place between two men at Rose Place on July 4 is linked to a four-year-old child being shot on that same night.

A police press release states that the police are investigating an incident in which a four-year-old female student of Rose Place was shot.{{more}}

Reports claim that the child was playing in the vicinity of a public bath when a shooting incident occurred, at Rose Place, about 9 p.m.

She sustained a bullet to her upper right thigh and is presently a patient at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH).

The report said two persons are assisting the police with the investigations.

On Wednesday at the Serious Offences Court, two men were granted bail in the sum of $20,000 each in gun-related incidents that took place at Rose Place on July 4.

Lara Carter, a resident of Ottley Hall appeared at the Serious Offences Court and pleaded not guilty to having a firearm in his possession with the intent of endangering the life of Andre Bowens, also of the same address. He has also been charged with unlawfully discharging a firearm at Bowens. He pleaded not guilty.

Chief magistrate Rechanne Browne-Matthias ordered that Carter report to the Central Police Station every Monday.

Bowens was also slapped with identical charges to Carter when he appeared before the chief magistrate. He pleaded not guilty to having a firearm with the intent of endangering the life of Carter and to unlawfully discharging a firearm at him and assaulting him.

In addition to his $20,000 bail, Bowens will report to the CPS every Friday and was ordered not to have any contact with Carter.

Both matters were adjourned for hearing on September 10.
