Speaking at the launch of the competition which was held at ECGCâs compound in Campden Park last Monday, Marketing officer at ECGC Glender Francois revealed that recipes presented would be used in ECGCâs advertising.
Francois said the recipes from the competition are valued by ECGC, as they represent the innovative use of the companyâs products and the best recipes will earn a place in the ECGC annual recipe calendar.
The aim of the competition is to support the development of persons involved in culinary arts in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Entries should be original recipes using the ECGC products and persons will compete in four categories: Specialty flour (Compulsory Category), Breads, Cakes and Pastries. Persons must also use ECGCâs products: Easy Bake All Purpose Flour, Easy Bake Whole Flour, Purity Flour, CariGold Herb and Garlic Flour, Rye, Multigrain and Pumpernickel Flour.
The competition launch also heard from Sales and Promotion executive at ECGC Rachel Haslam, baking consultant Ali Medjahead of Sweetie Pie Bakery, Mustique and education officer with responsibility for home economics in the Ministry of Education Michelle Guy.
Medjahead encouraged competitors to practise their baking before the competition, while he encouraged them to be creative and accept criticism.
Giving more information on the competition, Guy said that there will be 30 participants, inclusive of six students who were chosen from six zonal competitions which were held throughout St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The competition is open to bakers and chefs who work at bakeries, hotels and restaurants. Persons who do work at or own catering establishments are also allowed to participate. The deadline for registration was April 28.
