Phenomenal Woman Conference in its third year

For the third consecutive year, Vincentian born, Karen Hinds is taking the initiative to improve the lives of women across the region.

On April 10 and 11, 2015, women from St Vincent and the Grenadines and the rest of the region will all gather in one place for the annual Karen Hinds’ Phenomenal Woman Conference, which will be held under the theme “Unlocking the secrets to Powerful, Profitable and Personable Relationships.”{{more}}

In previous years, the conference was held at the Kingstown Methodist Church Hall. However, participants will be treated to an even greater experience when the conference takes place at a new location, the Russell’s Auditorium.

“The reason that we have this conference is to provide a platform for women to share their stories so they can learn about other people’s successes, lessons they’ve learnt. The second reason why we do this conference here is we want to make sure that we’re building a learning community and giving women the tools they need to build and sustain a successful personal and professional life,” Hinds said enthusiastically, during a press conference this week.

The two-day event will incorporate not only adult women, but a half-day conference for teens will be held on the Friday as well.

“We want to make sure that we’re preparing the next generation with the tools that they will need to be successful,” Hinds said about the teen conference, which was introduced last year.

“This year, we’re expecting approximately 400 women. Last year we had approximately 200 and we want to make sure that we double that this year. On Saturday…we’re expecting 500 women. We have women in St Vincent and the Grenadines, not just here but on other islands that will be coming into the island to attend this conference.”

For the teen conference, which caters to girls between 13 and 17, speakers include social media expert, Lena West; self defense instructor, Vanburn Harry from Yin Yang Martial Arts and Fitness Centre and Anglican Priest Kari Marcelle.

On the Saturday, the women will be treated to three tracks of workshops which span topics for the career woman, entrepreneur or those looking for personal development. Speakers include Jaclyn Vocell and Lena West from the USA, Lisa Cummings from Barbados and Vincentian speakers, Laverne Gibson-Velox and Dr Ken Onu.

“Regardless to where you are in your life, if you attend this conference experience, you’ll have an opportunity to learn something new. The most important thing is to come with an open mind,” Hinds declared.

Just as with other years of the conference, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to an organization that has an impact on the community. This year, those proceeds will be donated to the Salvation Army.

Early bird tickets for the conference are currently available at Coreas Hazells Inc.(BK)
