On Thursday, October 9, 2014, the first ever national association of sailing was formed in the State. An initiative led by sailing enthusiast Governor General Sir Frederick Ballantyne, the sailing association adopted a constitution and elected its first interim executive.{{more}}

Among the first members of the Association are the Bequia Youth Sailors, the Bequia Traditional Sailing Academy and the Canouan Gum Boat Club. Members of the Bequia Sailing Club, Elaine Olliviere and Nicola Redway, generously assisted in preparing the draft constitution.

An interim executive was elected for a one-year team only, in order to get the Association off the ground. The president is Eddie Brown of the Bequia Youth Sailors; vice-president is Albert Ollivierre of the Canouan Gum Boat Club; Samatha Lavia of the Bequia Traditional Sailing Academy is treasurer; and Louise Mitchell Joseph is the secretary.

The aim of the Association is to bring sailing in SVG in line with international standards set by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF), to be a member of ISAF and generally to promote the development of the sport. Phillip Barnard of Barefoot is the only ISAF recognized sailor in St Vincent and the Grenadines at present. He is also working closely with the Association in the development of the sport.
