Blondie Bird and friends cop 16 awards at prize-giving ceremony

Guinness Y De Lima, Hitz 103.7, Blondie Birds and Friends, were on top once again when they took the lion’s share of the awards at the Vincy Mas 2014 prize-giving ceremony, put on by the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC).{{more}}

At the event, held last Thursday at the Murray Heights Hotel, the mas band walked away with 16 trophies for supremacy in different mas sections.

They won: Band of the Year; Junior Mas Individual (5-9 years); Junior Mas Individual (10-15 years); Best Junior Section; Junior Queen of Carnival; Junior Band of the year; and Mardi Gras best use of colour.

The band also placed second in the following categories: Junior Mas, Junior King of Carnival, Junior Uptown competition, sections from the band, Queen of the Bands, King of the Bands and the Mardi Gras 2014 uptown competition.

Other recipients of prize money and trophies included: Delroy “Fireman” Hooper – Road March, Ragga Soca and Soca Monarch; Zamfir “Man Zangie” Adams – National Calypso Monarch; SVG Players International – Junior Uptown, Sections from the Band, Queen of the Bands, Mardi Gras 2014 Uptown; Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra – Senior Panorama, Starlift Steel Orchestra – Community Steel Pan and the Girls’ High School – Junior Pan Fest.

Miss SVG 2014, Shadeisha George-Matthis, and the other contestants of this year’s pageant were also on hand to collect their trophies and prizes.

Awards were also given to persons who participated in other competitions of Vincy Mas 2014.(KW)
