Having been the Minister of Culture for many years, many persons would affectionately refer to René Baptiste as “Mama Culture”.{{more}} Others may know her as a legal practitioner, who operates the firm of Baptiste and Co, and who recently became the president of the Bar Association. Some may know her to be the current Speaker of the OECS Assembly and the president of the Girl Guides Association of St Vincent and the Grenadines. Baptiste is chair of the Board of the Vincentian Association of Artists, Writers and Producers, as well as chair of the board of directors at St Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC).

However, SEARCHLIGHT bets you didn’t know that:

1. Baptiste does not eat chicken.

2. Her most memorable experience was being an international elections observer in 2011 in Nigeria.

3. She is one of five daughters for her father.

4. She has 4 sisters, but one died.

5. Our former Minister of Culture was the first woman to read news on local television (1982) and the first woman to do a live broadcast as well (1986).

6. Baptiste’s favourite place in St Vincent and the Grenadines is Akers Estate in Layou.
