The Church of Ascension came alive with song and dance on Wednesday, as the all girls institution held a memorial service for Physical Education teacher, Amanda Quow, who died recently after a battle with cancer.

Quow was remembered for her distinctive British accent, beautiful calligraphy, bubbly personality and encouraging spirit.

In the eulogy, headmistress Andrea Bowman reflected on Quow’s life at GHS and the many achievements that were made possible by the teacher’s dedication and determination.

“She fitted neatly into our GHS family as a form teacher, PE teacher and … member of the co-curricular department,” Bowman said. “She took our first CSEC PE and Sports students to all Grade One passes in 2006.”

The headmistress also described the 31-year-old as a resilient and hardworking individual.

“Despite her illness in the last two years, she showed her dedication when she returned to school, even before her sick leave was up, to help Mr Constantine (PE teacher) with school sports,” Bowman revealed.

In the thought provoking sermon, John Ghrishler told the congregation that to experience grief signifies that one has felt love for another.

Many people could be seen wiping their eyes as they shed tears of love for the influential woman. In a dance tribute, one dancer exited the stage in a flood of tears.

Before singing the school song in farewell to the teacher, four students rendered a song that seemed to echo the sentiments of everyone in the church; Quow was “Gone too soon”.
