Autopsy report reveals Maroon Hill horror
Broken neck, ribs and spine are part of one autopsy report coming out of last Sundayâs deadly Maroon Hill accident which took three lives and left three other people in hospital.{{more}}
Fifty-year-old farmer Leopold âPintoâ Castello of Hopewell, Mesopotamia; Peter Phillips, 33 year-old auto mechanic of Enhams and Alwyn âCrazyâ Toby – 53 year old mason who resided in Sayers, Mesopotamia all died after the truck in which they were travelling, TE 214 owned by Eldon Samuel of the same address ran off the Maroon Hill/Greiggs Hill public road Sunday afternoon.
Castello died on the spot, while Toby and Phillips died on the way to the hospital.
Castello sustained numerous broken bones about his body including neck, ribs and spine, according to the result of the post mortem which was released to the family on Tuesday.
Kelon Pompey, Castelloâs girlfriend said that it had been difficult trying to cope, given the circumstances under which her former lover lost his life.
âOur lives are never going to be the same,â Pompey said.
The 25 year old relationship produced two children.
The grieving woman said that she now had to resort to sleeping pills.
Regarding funeral arrangements, Pompey said that the date has been set and he is expected to be buried on February 9; she said she could not give any further details, however.
Monica âAnnieâ James said that she was doing okay in the hours that have passed since the tragic accident took her boyfriend also of 25 years, Alwyn Toby.
James told SEARCHLIGHT that she was expected to collect the post mortem result yesterday.
The funeral service for Toby will be held tomorrow at the Gospel Hall Church in Mesopotamia beginning at 2 p.m. she said.
Meanwhile, SEARCHLIGHT attempted to contact relatives of Peter Phillips, however our efforts proved futile.
Samuel, the owner of the truck and business place that Toby and Phillips worked said that both men would be missed.
He said that they had been working for him for about eight years and were two of the more senior employees and that they would be missed.
Up to press time Cliff Richards (42) and Nigel Peters (33) – the driver of the truck remained hospitalized; Brendon Grant (36) was discharged on Wednesday.(DD)
