The pilot, Captain Jason Forbes of Antigua, said to be in his 30s, is among the dead.

A female Jamaican, who taught mathematics at the Montserrat Secondary School, and a Guyanese, who was on her way to visit her daughter in Montserrat, also perished.

The third passenger on the small aircraft, who is in a critical condition in hospital, is said to be a young male resident of Montserrat.

At approximately 4:16 p.m. Sunday, the nine-seater Britten-Norman BN2 A Islander, destined for Montserrat, took off from the VC Bird International Airport’s Runway Seven and crashed onto Runway 10 shortly after being airborne.

Fly Montserrat spokesperson Karen Allen said the airline was still gathering information about the tragedy and would issue a statement subsequently.
