Consul addresses Jamaicans

Caribbean nationals, invited guests and dignitaries gathered to commemorate Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary of Independence from the United Kingdom.{{more}}

Association of Caribbean Nationals (ACAN) in partnership with the Consulate of St Vincent and the Grenadines to Northern Ireland, African Caribbean Support Organisation for Northern Ireland (ACSONI), Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and Equality Commission hosted a series of food, music and cultural events to celebrate the milestone and engage the entire Caribbean Diaspora and local community.

The grand finale concluded at Crescent Arts Centre with keynote speaker: Dr Christopher Stange – Hon. Consul for St Vincent and the Grenadines to Northern Ireland and on behalf of ACAN / ACSONI; with Cllr. Tierna Cunningham – Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast opening the Exhibition, Concert and Food Festival.

The concert included live performances from top band Manukahunney, Soloist Clover Watts, Reggae Artist Rassie Ai, Dub Poet Raquel McKee and Reggae Singer Paul Brown.

Stange commented: “I would like to thank all those involved in delivering an excellent week of events in the spirit of community and international relations. The Caribbean Diaspora in Northern Ireland is growing, representing the different countries, positively contributing to the economy and ultimately promoting the region.
