In their commitment to “serving members amidst the challenges”, the Teachers Co-operative Credit Union Ltd (SVG TCCU) on Tuesday held their 28th scholarship and book voucher presentation ceremony, at which 66 students benefited.{{more}}

70 students had applied to be a beneficiary of the programme, but 66 were acknowledged. Two received scholarships and the remaining 64, book vouchers.

The two scholarship awardees were Jevonique Edwards and Simeon Greene (Jr), who received one-year scholarships valued at EC$1,000.

Edwards is a former student of the Questelles Government School and will be attending the Girls’ High School next term, while Greene, a former Diamonds Government School student, will be attending the St Vincent Grammar School.

According to the SVG TCCU’s Manager Julian Jack, 70 students, 34 boys and 36 girls, submitted applications to the Ministry of Education, who then selected the awardees.

Jack, in congratulating the students, urged them to follow the example of those who went before, who, according to him, have excelled in their academics, hence making the program a “success”.

“We are very pleased with the performances that we’ve seen from our students, or from your (the parents) students and how they are helping in the direction in which this country should go,” Jack told the gathering at Tuesday’s presentation ceremony, held at Frenches House.

Speaking on behalf of her fellow awardees, Jevonique expressed gratitude to the financial institution for honoring them with the 2012 scholarships and book vouchers.

“The scholarship is very meaningful because it highlights your organization’s recognition not only for our success at Common Entrance, but also it represents our future, leading us on paths to achieving our academic goals,” Jevonique said.

Meanwhile, Simeon Greene (Sr), father of the scholarship recipient, Simeon Greene (Jr), told the students that they carry the future of the nation in their book bags and encouraged them to take their academic studies seriously as they enter secondary school.

“All of us will be gone after a while and you are the ones who will come up and take the leadership of this land,” Greene said.(AA)
