The advice to the boys came from former headteacher of the school, Addison “Bash” Thomas as he addressed the scouts during the school’s fourth Cub Scout Investiture ceremony last Friday.

“Whatever you do at this tender stage, remember to always be obedient in order to set and achieve goals. Always choose positive role models who you can emulate and become successful in life!” Thomas said.

Thomas, who was the feature speaker, further challenged the thirteen enthusiastic boys who were invested to, “Use education as a priority to develop your mental capacity in order to make wise career choices and other life’s decisions!”

Speaking directly to the many parents gathered, Cub Scout Leader and National Cub Scout Commissioner Hassan Wickham impressed on the need for parents to “cushion your little boys with love because it is the threshold to a fulfilled life.”

This was endorsed by Principal Sydney “Dave” Pereira who lamented the minimal father- presence and reinforced the school’s commitment to facilitate the boys’ holistic development. Pereira further encouraged the audience to “take care of each child” since it takes a village to mold a child.

Chief Scout Commissioner Frederick Forbes expounded on the virtue of discipline especially in schools; a point which was eloquently endorsed by Assistant Scout Leader Hewlin Brewster. Both speakers impressed on the invested scouts the importance of remaining focussed and staring clear of negative elements which may ruin their future.

Not to be outdone, the invested scouts treated the appreciative audience to a moving rendition of “I am a promise, I am a possibility” which echoed the youngsters’ wish to be everything God wants them to be.

The thirteen gleeful scouts were then presented with certificates, badges and crest as symbols of their new status.

The inaugural Park Hill Government School Cub Scout Investiture was held on March 14, 2004 with Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves being the feature speaker.
