Rawlings’ replacement to be named soon

A replacement for Chief Justice Hugh Anthony Rawlings is expected to be announced soon.{{more}}

Rawlings, who served at the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court for the past four years, is to officially retire on July 21 this year.

At this week’s 55th meeting of the OECS Authority at the Buccament Bay Resort, Rawlings’ successor was approved by the Heads of Government present.

However, the regional public will have to wait a few weeks to know who that individual is.

Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves, Chairman of the Authority, informed the media that the newly selected Chief Justice must first be informed of the appointment before it is made public.

“While we want to deal with the question of openness, in time you will get to know; but between the Director General and myself as Chairman, we will make the necessary telephone calls in all of these things and sort them out, and then we will have no problems thereafter in making the announcements.”

Also approved for appointment at the meeting, which took place on June 11 and 12, was a Director General of the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA).

Dr Gonsalves indicated that one of the two top candidates for the post would take up the post; but the name of that person, as in the case of the Chief Justice, will be announced at a subsequent date.(JJ)
