CEE records increase in passes for 2012
There was a slight increase in the proportion of students who met the prescribed standard in this yearâs Common Entrance Examination, as compared with last year.{{more}}
According to the preliminary press release for the 2012 Common Entrance results issued by the Ministry of Education, the figure for this year was 53.09 percent, compared to 51.18 percent in 2011.
Of the 2,141 students registered for the June 1 examination, 2,119 wrote the examinations with the highest average score of 95.16 percent matching that figure from last year.
Of the 1,076 males writing the exams, 486 (45.16 per cent) met the required standard which showed an increase in the 2011 figure of 43.63 percent or 463 males. Of the 1,043 females, 639 (61.26 percent) met the required standard, which also showed an increase over last yearâs results of 59.01 percent.
Iana Ferguson of the Kingstown Preparatory School was the top student this year with an average of 95.16 percent.
Second position went to Shane Cadogan of the Windsor Primary School with an average of 93.01 percent and Johnathan Geowarsingh and Jordan Hamlett both of the Kingstown Preparatory School placed third with an average of 91.4 percent.
There were eight students in this yearâs examinations who earned in excess of 90 percent of the total marks and 91 who scored 80 per cent or more.
The top ten places were taken by the Kingstown Preparatory School with 5 students; St Maryâs R.C with 2; Calliaqua Anglican Primary, one; Marriaqua Government, one and the Windsor Primary School, one.
Iana Ferguson and Aranique Jackson of the Kingstown Preparatory School, Shemar Cato of the St Maryâs R.C School and Marese Blugh of the Kingstown Government got the top scores in General Paper with 96.67 percent.
Ferguson was the lone person to cop the top score in English with 92.42 percent and Brandon Hadaway-Fraser of the Calliaqua Anglican and Saeed Bowman of the Sugar Mill Academy both scored the highest in Mathematics with 98.33 percent. (DD)
