Vincentians get free eye care

Hundreds of Vincentians recently benefited from free eye care in the annual Lions Club of Kingstown-SVG Eye Care 4 U Project, supported by a team of volunteers from USA.{{more}} The Mobile Medical Mission Hospital has completed its 37th annual visit to St Vincent and the Grenadines. The Mission this year numbered 26 and included ophthalmologists, optometrists, dermatologists, eye specialists and other trained assistants.

Eye testing, distribution of spectacles and medications were done at the Teachers’ College at Arnos Vale, from May 28 to June 1. Meanwhile, eye surgeries were performed at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) by a team of volunteer eye surgeons.

In addition to the free eye care services rendered to the citizens of St Vincent and the Grenadines, the USA Mobile Medical Mission donated a quantity of medical supplies and equipment to the MCMH.

The cost of the Eye Care 4 U project is estimated at EC$1.4 million.

Meanwhile, the Lions Club of Kingstown received the prestigious District Health and Wellness Award for the current lionistic year at the 32nd annual Multiple District Convention held in Trinidad at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port of Spain from 23 – 27 May, 2012.
