Poetry in motion at Girls’ High School

Poetry was in motion on May 25, as the students of the Girls’ High School participated in what is hoped to be the school’s inaugural poetry extravaganza.{{more}}

Forms one to four of the school gathered at the assembly area on that morning, belting out their various interpretations of many of the poetic pieces currently being studied in their English B classes.

The students were judged on creativity, presentation and expression by renowned local poets with an ear for talent: St Clair Jimmy Prince, David ‘Darkie’ Williams and Debra Providence.

When all was said and done, it was Form 1 G Young, with their presentation of ‘The Pig’s Tail’, Two Mckie who recited ‘At the Theatre’, Three B Four who did a rendition of ‘Ol’ Higue’, and Four PS who presented ‘The woman who speaks to the man who employed her son’ which came out on top in each category.

The extravaganza was organized by English teacher Nadia Black who said that she hoped the event would become an annual event on the school’s calendar of activities.
