The walk, which was held on Whit Monday, May 28, saw individuals, groups and families make their way from the hosts Premier Distributors warehouse in Glen, down to the Calliaqua main road, up to the roundabout in Arnos Vale, through Villa/Fountain, and back to the warehouse, in what was described by some as an intense workout, while others viewed it as âa walk in the parkâ.
After the trek, which took about an hour and a half to complete, participants were treated to an aerobics workout and a healthy breakfast, then outstanding walkers were awarded prizes, which included hampers, medals, juices, and a spa treatment, among others.
Walkers rewarded in various categories were Malcolm Webb, who was the first adult to finish the walk, while Reuben and Audrey Thompson were the first couple to end.
The Hilltop Tabernacle edged out the National Lotteries Authority as the largest group of walkers to participate, while Deyon Nanton and her children were the first family to cross the finish line.
The youngest walkers to finish the walk were also rewarded; this included Lewis Nanton, Kenele Alleyne and Durees Nelson, in the top three places.
General Manager of Premier Distributors Allyson Smith Sampson said that it was her companyâs corporate duty to do its part in fostering good community relations, wherever they are located.
She indicated that funds raised will go towards the St Benedictâs Day Nursery. Last year, Georgetown flood victims were the recipients of funds raised.
Smith Sampson thanked the other companies and individuals who partnered with Premier Distributors in the venture, and said that she hoped to see more walkers and businesses coming forward when the event is held again next year.(JJ)
