On May 30, at Digicelâs Corporate Offices, located in the Lewis Building on James Street, Marketing Manager at Digicel Juno DeRoche handed over a sponsorship cheque to RJRâs Public Relations Officer (PRO) Jeremiah Howard.
DeRoche said that Digicelâs contribution to RJR is one way of supporting the Vincentian tradition that is JâOuvert.
Commenting, Howard said that this year, RJR will be giving Vincentians âOccupy Kingstownâ for JâOuvert. Persons playing in RJRâS âOccupy Kingstownâ band, will this year sport orange paint.
Said Howard, âThis sponsorship signals the continuation of a relationship that has lasted for many years; for RJR, this year will be the fifteenth year of producing one of the most anticipated events on the Carnival Calendar, and many of the traditional sponsors have continued to express confidence in the groupâs ability to provide patrons with a professional, safe, and enjoyable Vincy Mas experience.â
Howard added, âPatrons this year will be on a mission to occupy the Solidarity Car Park on JâOuvert morning in orange to participate in an event filled with great music, top soca artistes, lots of giveaways, and sounds and special lighting effects from Platinum Soundsâ.
Howard said that artistes this year include Skinny Fabulous and Fire Empress.
He added that âOccupy Kingstownâ will begin inside the car park at 12:00 a.m. while revellers will hit the streets behind the truck (music from 2 Kool Chris) starting from 5:00 a.m.
Persons wishing to remain inside the car park can do so until 9:00 a.m.,, as RJR will be hosting an after party for the patrons who do not wish to jump behind the truck around Kingstown. Plans are also underway to supply patrons with pan music.
While inside the car park, patrons will be provided with free drinks, while a number of drinks specials and food will be available.
RJRâs Brand Manager Ricky Adams said that the party inside the car park will cater for RJRâs longstanding supporters, as well as new revellers. He added that purchasing an RJR ticket for EC$40 will allow patrons free drinks and will also get patrons a number of giveaways from the sponsors, including water bottles, bandanas and water proof cellphone pouches.
Other sponsors include LOG Enterprises, Mountain Top, Presidente and The News Newspaper. RJRâs motto is, âA Whole Lot Of Clean Fun!â
