Based on a collaborative effort between the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC), the National Lotteries Authority and Karib Cable, the highly anticipated event will be televised via pay-per-view on channel 204.
Over the past month, viewers of Karib Cable have been entertained with reruns of Vincy mas from previous years, as well as this yearâs activities, on Channel 203, otherwise known as VC3.
Tuesday, May 29, however, marked the official launch of VC3, along with two other channels, 204 and 205, which will air live and delayed pay-per-view events respectively, during the carnival season.
The launch of the channels took place at a press conference hosted by the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC).
Head of the committee responsible for implementing the initiative, Hans King, described the creation of the channels as one of the âbiggest and best things to happen for the carnival for a long time and certainly one of the bigger things for Vincy Mas 2012.â
King also outlined the features of the three channels and their individual programming.
He explained that VC3, channel 203, is the programming channel which runs for 24 hours, showcasing various carnival activities, while channel 204 will be the live pay-per-view channel.
âI believe that the first show that you will be able to subscribe to see live from the Victoria Park will be the Miss SVG 2012,â King said.
Channel 205, according to King, is the delayed pay-per-view channel.
The delayed channel, he explained, is a replay of a pay-per-view event that took place one week before.
âFor example, a week or so after Miss SVG has been shown live, and youâve seen it live on channel 204, you can pay to then see the show again, packaged or in its entirety, shown on channel 205,â King added.
It was also revealed that persons may also have the opportunity to view some of the activities from the rural carnivals on channel 205.
âSome of the rural queen shows, some of the rural calypso shows. Any rural activity that you may want to see, the entire package for the rural carnival, you can pay and get to see a package from that show.
âBut VC 204 will be the one that will bring the live shows like Miss SVG, Soca Monarch, basically most of the shows coming from here at the Victoria Park,â he further stated.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of CDC Ashford Wood said that persons residing outside of St Vincent and the Grenadines who are interested in accessing a live video stream via the Internet for the Miss SVG Show may log on to www.carnivalsvg.com and click on Miss SVG pay per view.
In order to gain access, persons would have to pay US $9.99 by credit card. This feature was made available starting yesterday, Thursday, May 31.
During Tuesdayâs proceedings, donations from the St Vincent and the Grenadines Teacherâs Cooperative Credit Union Ltd, St Vincent Distillers Ltd and sister company C.K Greaves and Company Ltd were presented to the CDC.
The sponsorship cheques were received by Denis Ambrose, CDC Chairman.
Tuesdayâs press conference was streamed live via VC3 and was the first live stream since the official launch of the channel.
The next live stream will be the Miss SVG pageant scheduled for tomorrow night, starting at 8:00 pm on Channel 204.(AA)
