P’tani Mas festivities launched
With the 2012 Carnival season already in high gear, the Pâtani Mas festivities were officially launched last Friday at the Community Centre in Mesopotamia.{{more}}
This is the fifth year since the Pâtani Carnival committee took over management of the festivities from the Marido organisation.
The launching saw Carlos James as MC, who also delivered the welcome remarks. Deputy Chairman Errol John delivered the feature address and officially declared the festival opened.
The proposed eight delegates for the Miss Pâtani 2012 made their first public appearance along with reigning Miss Pâtani Shackel Bobb.
Chairman of the Committee, Ronald Marks said this year is a special year for the committee as they celebrate their fifth year of existence.
âIt was a greater struggle for the first few years as for many of our members, it was the first time we were attempting anything like this,â Marks said in a SEARCHLIGHT interview.
Marks lauded his committee for the hard work and dedication they have put in to help raise the standard of Pâtani Mas every year.
âThis year we are planning the biggest and best festival thus far… We are grateful for the tremendous support from the people of Pâtani and other persons who have travelled from all over the island to be a part of it…,â Marks added.
Next up on the calendar of events for Pâtani, is big wet fete party on May 26. Following that will be the Miss Pâtani pageant on June 15 and the the Jâouvert, Kiddies Carnival and street jump up on June 16.
Marks urges persons from all over St Vincent to come and enjoy the Pâtani festivities, an experience he says persons should not miss.

Following the launch, a massive fete featuring Exclusive Sounds was held.(KW)
