Roles reversed
Last Friday was âRole Reversal Dayâ at the North Union Secondary School. Students were given the opportunity to assume control of the school for the day.{{more}} The principalâs position was filled by Headboy Macroy France, and he was ably assisted by a staff drawn from fourth and fifth form students. At the end of the day, however, some student-teachers thought that being a teacher was difficult.
This event was preceded by several other events. The Key Career was administered to the 4th and 5th Formers on Monday, April 23, by the Counselor Edward Smith and a team from the Ministry of Education, headed by Career Officer Kathleen Jeffers.
On Tuesday, the Houses faced off in the annual KDLT Chartered Certified Accountants Inter-house Business Quiz. This yearâs quiz ,which was centered on the history of the school, saw Green House emerging winner.
The bi-annual Career Fair on Wednesday was the major event. During the day, personnel from several government departments and private sector enterprises interfaced with the students of the school, along with students visiting from neighbouring secondary schools. This exposed the students to possible career options available to them upon leaving school. A brief opening ceremony was held, during which featured speaker, ASP Jonathan Nicholls, PRO of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, encouraged the students to be disciplined in every aspect of their lives. The Fair was also declared open by Career Officer Jeffers.
On Thursday, it was the turn of the Third Formers and their Parents/Guardians. A Seminar was held to assist them in selecting the most suitable stream for fourth form.
NUSS Business Week 2012 was held under the theme: âExploring Simple Possibilities Amidst Great Uncertaintiesâ and it is an integral part of the schoolâs thrust to continue to assist its students in making intelligent career choices.
